Lee Kyung-Sook

Park Jin-Ah
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to classify the parent-child relationship group types in children through a Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) and to examine differences in children's problem behaviors according to each group type. A total of 414 children (211 boys and 203 girls, grades 1-2) attending elementary schools were participated in this study. An important finding was that girls had higher communication and involvement than boys, while boys showed more attention problems, rule-breaking behaviors, cases of ADHD, and conduct problem than girls. In this study, parent-child relationships were categorized into three groups, the 'stable group', the 'under-involved group', and the 'conflict group'. The boys in the conflict group showed greater levels of anxiety/depression, and withdrawal/depression, as well as more attention problems, aggressive behaviors, internalizing and externalizing problems than the boys in stable group, while the boys in the under-involved group showed more social problems and oppositional defiant problems than the boys in the stable group. The girls in the conflict group showed more attention problems, more aggressive behaviors, and more internalizing and externalizing problems. They also had a higher incidence of ADHD and demonstrated more oppositional defiant problems than the girls in the stable group.
